It gives us great pleasure to announce a challenging, new television contest on Doordarshan, tentatively titled Khiladi No. 1 and produced by Big Synergy – the producers of landmark shows such as Kaun Banega Crorepati, Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain? The contest will provide a platform for a sports quiz in search of the ultimate sports buff in the year of India’s biggest sporting extravaganza – 2010 Common Wealth Games.

3. Indemnity
4. Rules
5. Written test guidelines

Admit card will be sent on receiving positive response / filled up forms.

Also please get with you a hard copy of the entire form filled at the centre, the day of the test which will be validated by your city coordinator before the exam.

Being able to win an Olympic medal is a demonstration that your country has some infrastructure and some determination to get their act together. India it seems doesn’t get a damn about its people for the most part. Probably 500 local officials need to be bribed to get anything done. If a 100 people die in a train accident, well they’ll try to get it down to 90 next time if possible. If someone has 10 children but can’t support them, well that’s their problem. It would be difficult for a local official to spend a dime for some sort of public awareness program. It is impossible to think that India does not have a large talent pool; but they are all untapped.

“There’re more important things that we should be focussing on!” Well certainly there is … and all those things you should be focused on are the ones that probably the sames ones that will help your country have a decent showing at the Olympics. Even a super poor country like Kenya outperform India. Ridiculous!

That is your perspective Jagdish and I respect it. I do see sport as an industry which can help the country at large as well however. Give priority to rural development but why ignore development of sport.

@ Preetam – That is one way of looking at it Preetam. The infrastructure and thus talent doesn’t come up as there isn’t any money and the money doesn’t come is as there isn’t any talent. There is a talent in sports like Chess but I guess a World Cup 1983 or a Sania Mirza has to happen to kick start a sport.

I guess it is a chiken and egg situation. Like soccer and hockey are not that popular at the national level, so the sponsors are not there. There is no widespread coverage (on tv) and thus there is no popular awareness.
