O Henry

Arsenal being the only English club left in the Champions League, almost every one in England is hoping for an Arsenal victory. Check out what the papers say here. One person who has more at stake than your normal fan is an anonymous Arsenal Fan. Reports The Sun:

AN ARSENAL fan splashed out ÂŁ204,000 yesterday on the biggest-ever bet on the Champions League.

Immense faith in Arsenal and Thierry Henry at the face of the unpredictability of football? Speaking of Henry, he seems peeved at the numerous and repeated questions regarding his future. Henry says he needs more time. Why should tabloids question the loyalty of Henry, a passionate Arsenal player if ever there was one, if he wants to assess the situation he has on hand before making a decision?

I am hoping for a Barcelona move. The pairing with Ronaldinho would be a dream. Ronaldinnho can create chances and open spaces where none exist (as shown by his pass for the Giuly goal last night). Henry can score with the faintest of sniffs. Would it mean sitting at the bench for Eto’o? Eto’o would suit well in the role he is already playing. In matches where Barca wants to play defensively, one of Eto’o and Henry can sit out. I would bench Eto’o.

I do not know if the Henry move would also be motivated by the result of the Champions League. It is no secret that Henry desperately wants to win the one title which is missing. If Henry wins it with Arsenal, maybe he would want to end his career at Arsenal and not go through the rigours of playing at Barca. After all, Henry is a legend at Arsenal apart from being quite comfortable at the club. At Barca he would have to compete for his spot much more. However, Henry is only 28. Arsenal has been poor this season. Barca seems much more promising and a club with a brighter future.

Another Champions League disappointment could make Henry switch clubs much more than financial considerations. For all we know, he might have already decided but waiting for an apt time to declare his decision. I am supporting Villareal for a win. It would suit Barca well. Not only would they avoid the unpredictable Arsenal in the final, it could pave the way for Henry coming to Barca.

I have been a hardcore Arsenal fan… so don’t quite agree with you. In my opinion if Arsenal manage to finish 4th this year, Henry will stay on.. however even though I am passionate abt the club, I wouldn’t blame him if he decides to move on if the gunners do not get a Champs League spot

That is the best approach to have according to me. The media was playing on how Henry owes it to the fans. Utter rubbish. He has given so much back to Arsenal. No one can question Henry’s contribution or his committment when at the club. I thought Henry responded quite well, setting the record straight.
