I agree with you Luis on te importance of letting flare show up. Technique is important but so is freedom to flow freely.

“doesn’t pass enough and is thus selfish” - this is a tactic that is drummed into kids at a very early stage in football in england.

It's probably also why England fails to impress at major world tournaments. It's great to have the fundemantals, but it takes some magic to win the big ones. Ronaldo has that in abundance and will mature with time.

Is Ronaldo still with Man U? or where

If he does come back he will be boo'd everywhere Man U plays

Ok Rooney was in the wrong in the first place, BUT to grass up a team mate is diabolical, he was not even nearby.

"doesn’t pass enough and is thus selfish" - this is a tactic that is drummed into kids at a very early stage in football in england.

the end result is the total lack of flair players of english origin. team ethos are all fine but a total emphasis on passing the ball has hampered the individual flourishment of players. there are not many english players who can beat the best in a one-on-one situation.

but then a wayne rooney turns up every generation and they think everything is fine.

Fair point George. The English guys at the ESPN-star studios in India point against Ronaldo for the tricks as well.. Their point is - he uses too much trick and doesn't pass enough and is thus selfish.

In addition to your points as to why Ronaldo is more hated than Maradona, his reputation in England, from an English perspective, is not helped by his style of play. The majority of English (and to a large extent Northern European) football fans think little of his numeous stepovers and arrogant tricks on the ball, and prefer to see the rugged, no-frills hardman at the back - one of the reasons why players such as John Terry are so well respected. Fabio Cannavaro's reputation and popularity will have shot up no end following the World Cup due to his manner of play being contrary to the stereotypical Italian footballer.

in an ideal scenario, c ronaldo should recieve no worse a reception than rooney gets. it was rooney after all who triggered the incident, however bad ronaldos reaction. it just goes to show the bubble of self denial, lame excuses and indifference the english football fans live in.
