Siddhartha, we haven't had a history in chess or shooting. It is heartening really as a sports fan to see us do so well in shooting. Anand paved the way in chess of course. That path breaking role has been accomplished in shooting as well now and I hope we break the jinx as well. :)

Pratyush it comes as a pleasant surprise that India has been doing fairly well in shooting. The sport requires expensive equipment and ranges that need to be well maintained (neither of which is copious in India). Nor do we really have a long heritage of success that could inspire people to take up the sport. It was only with Mansher and Jaspal Rana that we started producing people who could compete effectively on the big stage. And even they never really deilvered at the Olympics. Rathore's success at Sydney, and more so the style with which he did it was very inspiring! Wish we break the solo gold jinx at Beijing.
